THE Giants’ fightback against the visiting Bristol Flyers came to nothing.

The Flyers ended the Giants’ 100 per cent home record with a 82-73 win at the Sportsdome.

The Giants had led 19-14 at the end of the first quarter.

And though they were 44-39 down at half-time, Jeff Jones’ men fought back in the third period to level then take the lead.

But in the fourth, the Flyers edged into an advantage. And when they opened up a gap in the final two minutes, the Giants were forced to foul to regain the ball.

The Flyers held their nerve to sink their shots from the line and seal the win.

Ingus Bankevics led the scoring for the Giants, who lost centre Mike Bernard with a hip problem after just 4.15 minutes.

Stefan Gill and Ben Eaves scored 15 apiece and Callum Jones had 10 plus 11 rebounds.

Coach Jones said: “It was disappointing to lose Mike but we need to be able to cope without him if he isn’t on the floor.

“We showed good character to get back in the game but we have to play smart.”
