New signing David Kadiri made his Manchester Giants debut in the opening pre-season game against USA Select.
Kadiri arrived from the US at 5am and then turned out in the game some 12 hours later, contributing eight points and 13 rebounds.
After leading throughout the first half and in to the third quarter, the Giants ran out of steam in the final 10 minutes as the visiting team’s superior fitness told.
USA Select turned around a 41-36 half time deficit to eventually win 78-64.
Coach Danny Byrne told the Manchester Evening News: “We played well for 25 minutes and then a bit a tiredness crept in and our offence broke down a bit.
“You can see the chemistry is coming and it’s better than last season. There’s a lot to work on.”
The Giants are next in action this weekend during a pre-season tournament in Spain.
