Wear green for this Sunday’s match against Worcester Wolves to show support for MacMillan Active Manchester.
Manchester Giants have been working with MacMillan over the past few years, delivering a range of sport and physical activity programmes to support cancer survivors.
More than 350 people have been supported through the programme – and they have all been invited to the game at Powerleague Trafford Sportsdome this Sunday.
To show their support, all fans are being encouraged to wear GREEN for the game, while there will be a number of fundraising opportunities to support the programme – including bucket collections, chuck a duck and 50/50 draw.
Giants chief executive, John Dwan, said: “The MacMillan project has been a great success and it is important that we can continue fundraising to keep this going.
“It just goes to show what a positive impact that sport, and professional sports clubs in particular, can have on the local community. It goes beyond what happens on the court.
“We are privileged to work with MacMillan and our community team have done a fantastic job on this project over the past few years and long may it continue.
“We urge all fans to come out and support the Green Machine this week against Worcester, and help create another fantastic atmosphere to cheer on Danny Byrne and the team to a win.”
This year alone, 152 new cancer survivors have been engaged in a bespoke programme of sport and physical activity.
The programme aims to prevent the decline of physical function of cancer survivors without increasing fatigue, as well as supporting them before, during and after treatment to help with recovery.
It also helps to reduce the risk of cancer recurrence and mortality for some cancers and reduce the risk of developing other long-term conditions.
Other outcomes are helping to maintain independence and wellbeing for advanced cancer patients, and ensuring long-term opportunities are available for continued activity participation beyond the lifetime of the project.
