Homegrown guard Luis Bell has been handed a BBL vest number for Manchester Giants ahead of the new season.
Bell, 19, is a product of the club’s development pathway and recently travelled with the first team to Spain to take part in a pre-season tournament, which the Giants won.
He now becomes the 12th member of coach Danny Byrne’s roster, with the season beginning this Friday against champions Leicester Riders.
Born in Reddish, Bell (pictured above, courtesy of ADPSports) started playing basketball at the age of six and while studying at Manchester College, was picked up by the Giants and first played for the Under 18s, winning the MVP award.
Last season, he went on to play for the championship winning Giants II team in Division 4, under Byrne. He will continue to play for the now Division 3 side when not required for the BBL side.
Bell said: “I was invited down for experience of a professional environment late last season and over the summer I’ve done the same and now been given a spot on the bench.
“My hopes are to build up my skills and knowledge to make me a better player. I’m only young and I know that I will only get better playing against the best that the BBL has on offer.
“Spain was my first experience of playing abroad. It was a great opportunity for me to be a part of the squad and contribute to the success we had out there.
“As a team, we built a lot of chemistry together and I think that was a big part in us winning the tournament.
“I am very pleased to be part of the roster and it gives me a lot of confidence going forward that Danny believes in my ability to compete in the BBL.”
Bell, who will wear the number eight vest, is currently studying Sport and Exercise Science at Manchester Metropolitan University.
