Austin Lawton Joins The Giants

The Manchester Giants have announced the signing of American Centre Austin Lawton to their roster for the 2023/24 season.

Austin Lawton from Eutawville, South Carolina, United States, joins the Manchester Giants after successful stints in NCAA College, and for European teams such as Feyenoord Rotterdam, A.O. Agriniou, and Ionikos Nikaias BC.

Originally playing for the Claflin Panthers in NCAA DII in 2015, Lawton amassed over 100 games for the Panthers, averaging 10.2 points per game, to go with 6.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocks. The 6’9” Centre saw himself graduate in 2019 when he moved to Feyenoord Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

This past season, Lawton split time with different teams, originally starting the season at A.O. Agriniou in the Greek A2 Basket League before moving to Ionikos Nikaias BC in the Greek Basket League. The American Centre was able to average 8.4 points per game to go with 6.7 rebounds across both teams.

The centre joins the Giants bringing his well-known rebounding and shot-blocking ability that has been consistent throughout his career. Lawton’s best professional game arguably came last season where he was able to amass 10 points and 17 rebounds for Agriniou in a 79-74 losing effort to Megaridas.

On joining the Giants, Lawton said:

“First off, I’m grateful to Coach Brian and the whole Manchester organisation for blessing me with the opportunity to be here. I’m excited for this season and to compete at a high level with my new brothers in front of the best fans in the British Basketball League.”

Giants’ Head Coach, Brian Semonian said:

“Austin brings great experience as a pro along with some needed height. His ability to shoot from the outside will allow us to space the floor. He is a high-energy player with versatility that fits well with our style of play.”
