Manchester Giants are delighted to announce the signing of Del’vin Dickerson, a 6’6” American forward who joins from Argentinian club Gimnasia Y Esgrima.
The 26-year-old Houston native averaged 16 points and 6 rebounds per game last season, while shooting 56% inside, 34% from three-point range, and 72% at the free-throw line. In 25 minutes of action per game he demonstrated that he can light up the scoreboard quickly, on one occasion scoring 31 points in just 22 minutes against Ciclista, while also racking up 30 points in 26 minutes against Estudiantes, and another 29 points in 20 minutes against Parque Sur.
Prior to that, Dickerson enjoyed four seasons of college basketball, graduating from NCAA Division 1 North Carolina Central in 2017, after helping the Eagles to win the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament, thereby making only their second trip to the NCAA Tournament. He averaged 8 points and 5 rebounds in 20 minutes for the Eagles, and 10 points with 7 rebounds in Conference Tournament play.
Dickerson finished at North Carolina Central via a season at Bowling Green, and two years of Junior College at Paris JC in his home state of Texas. There, he averaged 11 points and 5 rebounds per game as the team’s joint-MVP, leading the Dragons to the Region XIV Tournament Championship and to the NJCAA National Tournament, while individually being named First-Team All-Region, First-Team All-Conference, and making the Region XIV All-Tournament Team.
Head Coach Danny Byrne said:
“Delvin is a tough and rugged player at both ends of the floor. He joins Giants with a reputation for defence, and can cover a number of positions in that regard. He scores the ball in a variety of ways and can do so very quickly, with outstanding offensive efficiency in his last two seasons.
“Because we don’t have the depth of other BBL teams, it’s really important that our player at the three spot is versatile and able to do a multitude of things on the court – it’s probably our hardest position to recruit. Del’vin has proven to be capable of exactly that over a number of years, so we’re really pleased that he’s chosen Manchester over other offers this season.”
Del’vin Dickerson said:
“I’m a team first guy, I will give it all for my teammates and will play until the end buzzer. I’m a tough grit player that does a little bit of everything – scoring the ball, guarding the opposition’s best player, rebounding. Whatever Coach needs me to do, I’ll do it.
“My ambition for this season is to get better every day as a team, and put Manchester back in the Play-offs and competing for championships again.
“The fans can expect to see a guy that plays with passion, a game changer, who will be a spark for the team and crowd. I’m energetic and a people person, and I can’t wait to #beeGIANT!”
