Flyers 82-81 Giants

Flyers 82-81 Giants

The Giants came into this game knowing they had a huge mountain to climb after Thursday's defeat. The 3rd seed and 6th seed did battle once again at the SGS Sports Arena.

A tough opening few minutes in Bristol. The Flyers took an early 9-0 lead and early turnovers that at this stage of the playoff matchup were costly.

Anthony Roberson sank 2 free throws to get the Giants on the scoreboard 3 minutes into the quarter.

The Giants started to find their scoring rhythm as the 1st quarter progressed. Tajh Green, William Lee and Rahmon Fletcher all get their personal tallies off the ground whilst Bristol endured a cold spell especially from beyond the arc.

Dirk Williams and his pair of free throws bring the Giants within 2 points of the Flyers. Corey Samuels of the Bristol Flyers converted from beyond the arc and extended the Flyers advantage.

With the flyers in early team foul trouble gave the Giants a plethora of opportunities both in the paint and from the line. Smash mouth and physical offence kept the Giants fighting in this game and kept Vince Macaulay’s men hot on the heels of their opponents.

Despite the flyers starting out hot, Giants managed to weather the storm and gain ground by the end of the 1st quarter. Nevertheless, the Giants still had a mountain to climb.

Big play from Dirk Williams as he connected with a step back three ball to look to chip away at the lead he and his team attempted to overcome.

As the Flyers came out they began to hit three ball after three ball in an attempt to bury the Giants under a barrage. Kofi Josephs responded with a three ball of his own.

Coupled with a pair of Nick Lewis 3’s and trips to the line from Lewis and Anthony Roberson the Giants were constantly chasing the Bristol Flyers.

The chasing was rewarded for a short time. Anthony Roberson sank a free throw to level the game before Mike Miller put the Flyers back in front before Rahmon Fletcher tied up the game once more.

Before the end of the 2nd quarter the Flyers strung a run together through Miller and Delpeche. A quick one two punch that rocked the Giants and gave the Flyers a 4 point advantage at the half.

The Giants took their first lead of the game early in the 3rd quarter. A Tajh Green free throw was nothing but net as the Giants looked to start chipping away at that looming aggregate score.

Olison and King of the Flyers gave them a 3 point lead that was nullified when Dirk Williams hit from beyond the arc. Some smash mouth basketball from Anthony Roberson gave the Manchester Giants a 2 point lead on the night.

It’s been back and forth between the two teams as they constantly traded leads between them. The 3rd quarter was won by the giants as they outscored their adversaries. Despite this, it isn’t enough to go into the next round.

It was a promising start to the quarter as Rahmon Fletcher connected from close. It was short lived as the Bristol Flyers went on a 11-2 scoring run in the quarter and thus, regained their double digit lead.

Bristol stretched their lead to 13 before combined efforts of Nathan Robinson, Anthony Roberson, Dirk Williams and Rahmon Fletcher brought the lead to 5.

Tajh Green and Rahmon Fletcher connected as Fletcher lobbed the ball up and Green was there to meet it and throw it down with enough force to shake the backboard.

"For us its about regrouping and looking at the tie as a whole. We have come a long way and we've had a great bunch of guys and I've enjoyed coaching them"          Vince Macaulay

Despite outsourcing the Flyers in both the 3rd and 4th quarters, The Manchester Giants are subsequently eliminated from the playoffs.
