Surrey Scorchers vs Manchester Giants

Where: Surrey Sports Park, Richard Meyjes Road, Guildford, Surrey, GU2 7AD

When: October 28, 2pm

A rejuvenated Giants head to Surrey on Sunday looking to prove another point.

Coach Danny Byrne asked his players to bounce back from a disappointing home performance against the Scorchers a couple of weeks ago when they visited Worcester last weekend.

They did that in style with a second away win of the season.

And Byrne wants his men to do it again in the BBL Cup at Surrey – opponents he feels his team should have beaten last time.

“We know what we are about and we know we can beat them,” said Byrne.

“It’s another opportunity for our players to show what they’re all about and a chance to beat Surrey.

“We haven’t won in the Cup since the club came back to the league in 2012 so that’s another incentive.”

The Giants go into the game buoyed by a positive performance in their 92-86 victory at Worcester.

“It was good and we should have win by more,” added Byrne.

“But it was another win and the effort, fight and determination not to lose from all the players was brilliant.

“They were out to prove Surrey was a blip and they did with some really good team basketball.

“We had six players in double figures and we think Willie, who had eight, as denied two he scored by the scorers.

“Vlatko Granic was excellent, Callum Jones probably played the best defence I’ve ever seen him play – he really shut down Adam Thoseby – and Mike McCall and Torry Butler was good. Everyone was.”
