Giants Player of the Year Awards

Giants Player of the Year Awards

Manchester Giants announce their player of the season award winners for the 2023/24 season.

The award winners for the defensive player, coaches player and players player of the season were announced as the 2023/24 British Basketball Season draws to a close.

The winner for the Manchester Giants 2023/24 defensive player of the year went to none other than Giants talisman Jamell Anderson. This accolade is yet another in the overcrowded cabinet of Anderson’s as the serial winner and Commonwealth gold medalist was a defensive anchor all year for the team.

Jamell Anderson has been instrumental for this Giants team averaging the 2nd most minutes played by any player in the league being a complete game changer on both offensive and defensive sides of the ball. Jamell has proven himself to have not only been a menace of the defensive side but also a pivotal player for the team with 41% from the field, 77.7% from the line and a total of 363 points across 25 total games played this season and nearly 1000 minutes under his belt for the year.

The coaches player of the year award went to British Basketball newcomer Nick Stampley. The Giants forward has nearly accomplished his 1st season of British basketball and so far has averaged very strong numbers in both points and rebounds with 9 points and 7 rebounds and a season high of 21 points against Surrey. Stampley has been consistent all season long averaging 44% from the field and 36.7% from beyond the arc in 34 games played in nearly 1000 minutes of British Basketball action. Stampley showed off his iron man abilities throughout the season, consistently playing 35+ minutes for Brian Semonian’s side whilst the team struggled with injury issues as this also proved how invaluable the American forward has been in Manchester.

The winner for the player’s player of the season award is the 2nd coming of Kevin Durant in the form of University of Birmingham at Alabama alumni William Lee. The Giants forward has been a mismatch nightmare for every team this season with an incredibly strong showing of 13.5 points per game and 8.5 rebounds per game putting him in the best of the best in the league this season. After a season where an ankle injury sidelined him for most of the 2022/23 season in Manchester, Lee has put the league on notice with just how dominant of a player he can be. An athletic big man who doubles as a 3 level scorer as well as a defensive anchor, Lee has shown to be a jack of all trades and master of all trades this season being one of Brian Semonian’s preferred scoring options week in week out and with an efficiency rating of 428 for the season it is easy to see why.

A huge congratulations to all involved.
