Manchester Giants won the first Battle of Manchester with a 86-60 win over Manchester Magic.

A dominant third quarter helped the Giants ease to their fourth victory of pre-season, a 31-11 10 minute period straight after half time enabling them to shut down the Division One visitors.

Magic had proved tricky opponents in the first half, trailing just six after the first quarter and then 46-37 at half time.

Giants coach Danny Byrne was able to test a number of different rotations, as well as give minutes to youngsters Roosevelt Davis, Adam Oldham and Bailey Goodall.

Big American Willie Clayton top scored for the Giants once again with 19pts, closely followed by Mike McCall Jr with 18.

Croatian Vlatko Granic played well for 14pts, and Callum Jones added 13.

Torry Butler (10), Ingus Bankevics (nine), Ryan Lewis (two) and James Jones (one) also got on the scoresheet.

Lewis was making his second trial appearance for the Giants in pre-season, having also featured at Cheshire Phoenix on Friday night.

Former Giants big man Richard Bell featured for Magic, and the two sides will do it again on Tuesday night at the Manchester Basketball Centre.

The British Basketball League season proper starts on Friday, with the Giants visiting Sheffield Sharks, and the first home follows on Sunday September 30 against new boys London City Royals.
