Hannah Shaw Signs For Giants

Manchester Giants have continued their run of securing the best local talent for their Women’s team, as they tip off the week by announcing the signing of Great Britain International and Commonwealth Games Silver Medallist, Hannah Shaw.

Born in Stockport, the 32-year-old joins Head Coach Marg Jones’ side from the B. Braun Sheffield Hatters, where Shaw has spent the past two seasons in the Women’s British Basketball League, and becomes Jones’ third signing of the summer following the acquisitions of Georgia Anderson and Leah McDerment.

Shaw’s signing for the club signifies her return to Manchester after leaving the Giants at the end of the 2020/21 season. The 6’4” centre’s basketball career started with the Nottingham Wildcats as a 13-year-old, before helping the club to two Regular Season titles as a professional.

Having also played professionally in Europe, and in the NCAA with the University of Miami, Shaw has had a storied career that has also seen her win a silver medal with Team England at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast, as well as representing Great Britain in their most successful showing at a Women’s EuroBasket, where the team finished fourth.

Head Coach, Marg Jones, said:

“I am so pleased and honoured that Hannah will be returning to play in Manchester. As a veteran player and former GB National Team player, Hannah brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the court and will be a cornerstone of our team this season.

“Her smart play and efficiency on both ends of the court will be a tremendous asset to our team.  I can’t say enough about how much I am looking forward to working with Hannah this season. “

On her return to Manchester, Shaw said:

“I’m really looking forward to being back in Manchester and to be a part of the very first Giants women’s team.”
