Manchester Giants head coach Danny Byrne is making strides in putting together his squad for the new season.
However, none of his popular overseas recruits of last season – Americans Willie Clayton, Mike McCall Jnr and Torry Butler and Croatian Vlatko Granic – will be returning.
Byrne has made good progress in terms of finding replacements for the quartet and has wished them all luck as they pursue new opportunities.
The Giants play-caller is upbeat about recruiting strongly again after a largely positive season last time out.
He said: “The off-season is always exciting, looking at different players, teams, getting to see who the other BBL teams sign.
“In terms of Willie, Mike, Torry and Vlatko, we spoke with them about returning towards the end of the season and after the season ended.
“Unfortunately, they have all decided to pursue other opportunities in higher leagues and with bigger salaries.
“I did believe if we were able to bring them all back and add another player, we’d definitely challenge for silverware again. But it’s just not possible.
“We wish them all well in what they do next.”
Byrne has already made progress in bringing in new blood.
He added: “With us knowing that they won’t be returning we have had to focus on recruiting new players.
“This is exciting and frustrating all at the same time. However, I believe that I will get recruitment right and we will be in for another exciting season.
“I am sure the Giants fans will be disappointed that we can’t bring some of the players back, but I am also sure the will be excited with the new players and welcome them to our Giants family.”
Byrne hopes to reveal his first signing for the 2019/20 season imminently.
