Manchester Giants in the BUCS League

Manchester Giants saw success in the men’s and women’s BUCS leagues.

As the basketball season in the UK reaches the business end of the campaign, a few of the Manchester Giants have seen success for their respective university teams at Manchester Metropolitan University and in their respective BUCS campaigns in the league as well as cup competitions.

The men's team saw success in the BUCS cup with the team defeating Loughborough University 71-58. Coached by Giants legend Callum Jones and highlighted with Giants guard and certified bucket Evan Walshe, the team went on a stellar run in the cup, beating the likes of Cambridge and more on their way to a convincing win in the final. Walshe set alight to Loughborough as he finished with 23 points, 7 rebounds on 88% from the line.

The team looks towards promotion to the premier division and their first opponents in Derby.

Speaking of promotion, the Manchester Metropolitan Women’s team saw that exact success as they defeated St Andrews and gained promotion to the premier division after a 2 year hiatus. The team, coached by Giants head coach Marg Jones and assisted by Giants point guard Brooklynn Macalear-Fanus, secured a huge win over St Andrews on the road. Headlined by Giants guards Idil Turk and Emilie Black, it secured a big victory for Mancunian basketball and a big win for the university itself.

A big congratulations to all those Giants involved from the entire Manchester Giants organisation.
