The Giants secured their third BBL Championship win of the season – and their first at home – with a spirited win over Surrey Scorchers.
But the Giants were made to sweat for their victory over the team they beat in BBL Cup action last month.
They held a 14-point lead midway through the final period but a flurry of three-pointers from guard Caylin Raftopoulos – he finished with figures of 6/7 – got the visitors back within four points.
But the Giants held their nerve and gave the home fans something to shout about after enjoying their best form so far this term on the road.
They made a hot start, taking the first quarter 20-12 and maintained a 41-34 advantage at the break after an even second period.

With an EFF of 41, @willieclayton21 ties the @McrGiants record set by @Daliu14 (38/11/5a, Feb '14). Not sure if it's a tiebreaker, but Aliu was two weeks before his birthday and Clayton was *on* his birthday 🎂🎂🎂 https://t.co/3MjDvwOiYR

Giants took the third 23-16 to build up a good lead before the Scorchers tried – but ultimately failed – to overhaul it.
Birthday boy Willie Clayton provided his obligatory double double with a powerhouse 27 points and 14 rebounds, while Callum Jones had 18, Tory Butler 17 and Ingus Bankevics 16. Mike McCall scored 11 and handed out six assists.
It gives Giants a 3/4 record in league action.
