Scorchers 106-103 Giants

The Manchester Giants end the 2022/23 regular season on a more sour note as they lose out to the Surrey Scorchers 106-103.

This was the last chance both Scorchers head coach Lloyd Gardner and Scorchers player Josh Steel had to play against their former employers this season. With the Giants already having the head to head, the scorchers wanted to end their season on a good note whilst the Giants wanted momentum heading into their play off fixtures.

Tajh Green gets a friendly roll after driving baseline to get the Giants off the mark. Driving close and converting close got the giants to extend their lead through William Lee and then later from Anthony Roberson who was fouled and converted at the line.

Giants captain Rahmon Fletcher and Tajh Green connect at the midway point of the first quarter as the 2x BBL MVP lobbed the ball up to the BBL rookie of the year to throw it down.

Early struggles in the Giants offence as they were only 1/5 from the three point line.

Tajh Green has had an impressive first quarter scoring 13 of the Giants 24 points in the quarter as well as grabbing 6 of the giants 10 rebounds in that quarter. Despite this, the Giants trailed by a single possession at the start of the second quarter.

Kofi Josephs tied the game in the early stages of the 2nd quarter. A corner ball three saw the Giants meet the Scorchers at 27 a piece.

Despite the three ball to tie the game. Manchester continued to be a step behind and a possession behind.

After being on the wrong end of a 4v1 fastbreak in transition, the Giants recover and answer back as Kofi Josephs strings a three ball from the right elbow. This made it 38 a piece.

A neck and neck game at the Surrey Sports Park as both teams remained within a single possession within each other the entire 2nd quarter. A highly entertaining half as both teams scored 26 and 24 in opposite quarters. A true back and forth contest on the final day of the BBL regular season.

The free throwing woes continued as the Giants were 3/8 from the charity stripe as they entered the locker room.

Quarter number 3 belonged to the Manchester Giants. Dirk Williams notched a three to kick off the entertaining quarter.

Williams also connected from deep once again 3 minutes into the quarter to retain the lead for Manchester. Rahmon Fletcher danced his way through the Surrey defence to convert from close which later saw Dirk connect for his 3rd three in 4 minutes.

Anthony Roberson and Kofi Josephs both make shots from close and give the Giants the first double digit lead of the game.

The scorchers looked to try and get back in the game, bringing the lead back down to 5 through ex giant Josh Steel and Boban Jacdonmi.

The lead became short lived as Surrey kept making from beyond the arch to not only tie the game but put themselves back in the driver's seat as they led by 3 with 7 minutes left

Scorchers Josh McFolley became the main focal point of the Surrey offence as he kept connecting from three as the Scorchers led the Giants by 7.

The Giants were not done yet, back to back 2 point conversions from William Lee coupled with three balls, one from Kofi Josephs and another from Dirk Williams put the Giants back within 1 point.

Andrew Lawrence replied with a three of his own. Later, Tajh Green slammed it down. Josh McFolley of the Scorchers made both free throws with 4 seconds left.

With Surrey up by 3, Giants inbounded and came up short. With this result now means that the Manchester Giants play the Bristol Flyers in the playoffs.
