William Lee Returns to the BBL
William Lee has become the latest BBL star to join the new-look Manchester Giants
American forward Lee helped the Leicester Riders to the 2020/21 BBL regular season title, making the BBL Defensive Team of the Year.He impressed with his aerial abilities and defensive qualities which saw him average 1.3 blocks per game, finishing third in defensive rebounding with 6.4 per outing.
Giants' Head Coach Vince Macaulay, is looking forward to watching Lee is high-flying action for his new club: "We want to make attending Giants games a really entertaining event and William is one of the most exciting players there is" he said.
"He has BBL Championship experience and since stepping away from the game has developed his hunger again, he will compliment our up-tempo style, whilst giving us a real defensive presence whether that be guarding up the floor or spectacular blocks at the basket, I think we have a real gem here".
Lee joined Leicester after spending the 2019/20 campaign with German Pro-A side Nurnberg Falcons BC. The 6"9 forward previously played in the G-League with Iowa Wolves having spent three years playing for the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He was the all-time leading shot-blocker in UAB history, twice winning the defensive player of the year in his conference and also being named as a two time all conference player.
Ahead of his arrival, Lee said "I am excited to come back to the BBL and continue my basketball career playing for coach Vince, but also getting a chance to play with former teammates Dirk and Corey - Lets go Giants!".F
